This was sent from Sean at UR when I first inquired about the pulley years ago (dated 2/21/98). I'd like to assume it's all fact, but there's always a little bit of marketing in any product description. However, since I've had my pulley, my idle has been smoother (less variance) and I've noticed no side effects whatsoever (I run my stereo and a/c together all the time and there's been no extra drain on the battery). I can't say it will never cause problems, but 30k and my driving habits should of brought something out by now ;) ------------> The stock crank pulley is called a torsional damper on the late model foreign cars, including the 300ZX. The rubber ring smooths out the cycling of the accessories in relation to the crank shaft. This is done to less the pulling effect that the accessories have on the crankshaft. It is also done because the stock pulley is so heavy and those cyclings have more of a dangerous effect because of the mass that they exert their pressure upon ie. the carnk and its snout. As you can see our pulley is smaller in diameter and significantly lighter than the stock pulley. The lighter weight means that the accessories have less mass to tug on which greatly improves the life of the crank. The smaller diameter means that the accessories now have alot less damaging leverage over the crank. As I'm sure ytou noticed the engine should feel smoother, this is the result of the two principles behind these pulleys. Finally you should be aware that these aforementioned engines are 0 gram balanced, or so close to that figure, that there is no balancer (harmonic or otherwise) needed. Those principles are for the older generations of cars, those harmonic units are seperate from the crank pulley and the pulley is attached to this type of balancer with bolts. Again you can see the Z does not have the two piece design I mentioned. <-------------
